WHAT I'VE LEARNT TODAY

I've managed to add my TAG CLOUD finally, it has really been annoying me, but hopefully that is working now. I decided to ask the help menu and after reading some of the comments from others who have had difficulty one blogger suggested going to the gadgets area then adding a LINK and turning on CLOUD as an option. It worked!
I also noticed how awful my blogs looked when they were a little long and it was boring to scroll down so far to read them. Once again HELP came to the rescue by telling me to add AFTER THE JUMP which caused a page break and left a message to READ MORE (I changed the wording to suit me). This still didn't work until a blogger said he had to 'monkey' around with the settings and switch on ADVANCED EDITING. I thought that sounded hard but I managed to do it. It worked and this created a less cumbersome entry.

WEEK 7 - WIKIS

SANDBOX WIKI
I added two entries to the Learning 2.0 SandBox wiki. They were my favourite books, of course Steig Larson’s trilogy and my favourite TV shows, which included: Lost, The Office, Seinfeld, The Amazing Race, Survivor, just to name a few. I haven’t had too much time to watch these lately as I’ve been busy blogging!

DISCOVERING WIKIS
I've discovered that 'Wiki' is the Hawaiian word meaning 'quick'. The biggest wiki we all know about is of course Wikipedia, and althought it has so much information stored in one spot that it boggles the mind (who put it all there?), students tend to go there for lots of their research. It can be the 'starting' point for research but as it is a 'wiki' it is not always correct in it's information because anyone can add their own information to Wikipedia.

Wow... check out http://pgscreading.pbworks.com/ this site impressed me so much as to how to use wikis effectively and also how teachers and students are becoming so innovative at using the Web 2.0 technologies to enhance their school work. Combining Animoto and Powerpoint storyboard children as young as Grade 4 can produce fantastic video clips on their wikis. Using Booktrailers students are making their own book trailers (like movie trailers) to review books... but wait there’s more... click on the ‘sidebar’ and learn about 60 second recap, Toon Doos, and much, much more.

WEEK 5 - PLAY WEEK

Fun, fun, fun. Play week was right up my alley. There were lots of fun things to explore... so I did. I think this site is probably more for personal use although some of the image creating apps you could use in a school.

ONLINE IMAGE GENERATOR
One area I investigated was Letterjames http://www.letterjames.com/ which allows you to personalize photos and send e-cards to family and friends. I enjoyed this site and had a lot of fun sending e-cards to several friends. I even sent one to myself… it was a message written in the sand. Check it out!

I also had a look around in FD Toys and liked some of the great ideas there like turning your personal photos into jigsaw puzzles.I went into Generator Blog but didn’t like too much within that site and didn’t think I would use them.

LIBRARYTHING
Although I did experiment a little with LibraryThing and catalogued a few of my favourite books, I really preferred Shelfari which I discovered. It does a similar thing but I found it easier to use and I liked the way you placed all your books on a gorgeous bookshelf (covers facing out) and you could rank your favourites, those you have read, are still reading or want to read in the future, even books you have loaned to friends. You can write reviews, tags and so much more. I’ve already had people with feedback on some of the books on my shelf. It’s a good organisational tool and it’s definitely something I will continue to update. It’s also good for book clubs.
